Kudzu Vine Graveyard

If you've ever stayed in the Appalachian area for an extended period of time, you know what this is. Looking at this makes us pinch our noses and sigh every year. It's not as bad in Tazewell County as it is in Buchanan County, but it's here in some places still. These were all taken in Buchanan County. We were visiting family for Easter, and I took these as we drove by.

Once upon a time, several, several years ago, the county government decided they needed to get rid of a bug (or something or another, it's been a while since I heard the story last). So they decided the best option was to bring in a Japan-native plant known as the Kudzu vine. Now, they probably didn't do a lot of research (surprise!), but as it turns out it's an invasive species.

All these mountainous landscapes, marred by a virtually unkillable plant.
