The Green Dawn & The Smooth Dusk

in #photography5 years ago

The beginning and the end of one single day.

Tow completely opposite shots, in terms of time and orientation...

What I mean is that this first one was captured right before the sunrise.
The sun was still hiding behind the horizon but Mr Seagull was already up in the sky looking for his first meal of the day.

The natural light was obviously not the best, and to make things even "better" I shot it with a 100mm macro lens, so the image came up very dark and underexposed. But a man with basic lightroom skills fears nothing! :p

I decided to try to do something with this shot anyway, I knew I had the seagull silhouette there and those nicely colored clouds. I just had to rehabilitate it somehow so I started to move some sliders, add a couple of filters here and few brushes there...

In the end I was pretty satisfied with everything but the sky itself. The color was weirdly unnatural, so I though "If the color is already unnatural why not just keep it that way but with a more pleasant tone?"

That's how this green dawn came to life.

This one in other hand was captured already after the sunset.

Not like in the first shot, here there was still enough light around so I managed to get a good exposure. There was no need for any major post production tweaks. I only added a little bit of clarity to push the clouds texture a little bit and a minor contrast adjustment.

The clouds were amazingly smooth and fluid.
