Ruins of industrial Kuybyshev: silicate brick plant

in #photography5 years ago

The city of Samara, the ruins of the industrial past of the city. In the last century, many enterprises were located within the city limits. After the collapse of the USSR, not all production could survive. Most went broke and went bankrupt. Many production sites located on the attractive for developers places - the banks of the Volga, in the city center. But with the building of the former squares, not everywhere everything went well. Many places in the city look like postapocalyptic landscapes ...

The silicate brick plant was launched in 1929. Silicate bricks were manufactured here by a new technology at that time based on German developments. In addition to brick, the plant also produced shingles and sewer pipes.

Before reorganization, the silicate plant was a state enterprise. When the industry began to decline in the country, the plant was incorporated. Because of its location, on the banks of the Volga, in the geographical center of the city, various construction companies wanted to buy the factory territory many times. Locals complained to the prosecutor because of the smell and constant emissions. 18 pollutants of the second, third and fourth hazard classes were emitted into the atmosphere, including limestone dust, sand dust, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, vanadium pentoxide, soot and carbon monoxide. Fines were imposed on the production and even closed for a while. There were even plans to transfer the capacity of the plant beyond the city limits.

The plant finally closed in 2012. Almost immediately after closing, the equipment was removed, and the hull began to be disassembled into bricks. Now there are only a few workshops left from the plant, a substation and a large overgrown site. Last year there was still a conveyor to deliver sand from the banks of the Volga, but now it has been dismantled.

According to some projects, on the site of the former factory they wanted to build luxury housing in the form of a sail, 28 floors high. There were plans to build a cable car to the opposite shore, to the village of Rozhdestveno. But everything remained only on paper. Maybe someday here everything will be cleared and something will be built. And maybe not soon, or not at all.

The city of Samara used to be called Kuibyshev.
