Exploring British Columbia - Campbell River Day Two

in #photography6 years ago

I'm finally back in Alaska after an amazing week in British Columbia and I now have time to go through all of my pictures. Over the next few days I'll be sharing stories and photos from the trip. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I met so many genuine and welcoming people in Canada.

On day two we went fishing in Desolation sound. I caught two salmon but they unfortunately weren't big enough to keep. One of the guys in our group did catch one we could keep. We had it filleted and cooked at a local restaurant less than five hours after catching it. It doesn't get much fresher than that. Fishing is a vital part of the economy and culture in Campbell River. The people there show such respect for the environment and it shows in how pristine the area is.

Our boat captain mentioned that he knew a secret spot where a waterfall fell into the ocean. Since we weren't catching much, we decided to take him up on the offer. He took us to a boat dock tucked in an inlet next to a massive waterfall. We got off the boat and hiked up the hill. Skirting the edge of the cliff, we made our way to a massive wall of rock. I feel so fortunate to be one of only a handful of people who know where this spot is. The captain told us to keep it's exact location a secret. Good luck finding it ;)

After returning to the harbor, we filleted our salmon for dinner. This guy was extremely interested as we walked up with the fish. We fed it the parts we cut off and nothing went to waste. This is a perfect example of the mindset in this place. Nothing is wasted and everything in nature is treated with the utmost respect. I've mentioned before about my 45 day road trip this summer. I'll be going from Alaska down through Canada, the Pacific Northwest, then eventually over to Virginia. After visiting Campbell River on Vancouver Island I will be carving out time to visit again. This is such an amazing place and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a pristine and authentic experience in nature.

Check out Day One!

Nostalgic feelings: I spent a lot of time in BC while I lived in Canada, particularly the west coast of Vancouver Island, Pacific Rim, Ucluet, Tofino. This inspires me to 'mine' the recesses of my files and find images for posting something in future.

Great to hear. I will definitely be back. Vancouver island is seriously one of the most beautiful places I've been.

Wow, fabulous work, and what a beautiful place. I was just thinking the other day about how nature really does take care of itself, and almost nothing in the natural world goes to waste.

Thanks so much! The more people that realize that, the better the world will be.

Simply amazing shots man! Looks like you had an amazing time

Awesome! Thanks for the support :)

Good post. It's like I went by myself :)

Its such a special place over there on Van island. We went bear watching out of Telegraph cove last year. Amazing to see.

That sounds so fun! I would love to do some bear watching in Alaska. Maybe this summer.
