Part 10 in my Journey to Antarctica. If you enjoy the stories and photos, please comment and let me know!

St. Andrews Bay, South Georgia.

It's not just penguins out here in South Georgia. The land is alive with a variety of animals, ranging from seal to sea bird (and, of course, a number of penguin varieties) as they come ashore during the antarctic summer to rest, recuperate, and renew their bodies for the next winter.

Fur Seal enjoying the sun.

There are two types of seals that are mainly encountered here, and I've given them each nicknames: Buddy Seal and Bad Seal.

Buddy Seal. Awww.

The Buddy Seal is the doe eyed (although a doe has nothing on the eyes of these guys) Elephant Seal, who will walk right up to you without fear, begging for food with those huge round eyes (don't feed them!). _
The Bad Seal the misnamed Fur Seal (actually in the sea lion, not seal, family), who with very little provocation will charge towards you and maybe attack. This includes the pups who, according to our expedition leader, are born angry.

Bad Seal. Born Angry, but still really cute.

If it really came down to a brawl, though, I would love to have an Bad Seal as a buddy.

Great shots - Seals do look chill when they're soaking up the sun :) Must have been the trip of a lifetime down to Antarctica.

It absolutely was. Lots more to come!
