Norway - Landscape in Setesdalen, southern Norway
Last weekend I drove up one of the well known valleys in southern Norway – Setesdalen. I wanted to spend a day through the valley, making stops for photo shoots. Summer will soon come to an end and the colors will change. I wanted to take photos of the valley while it is still green. Around every turn awaits beautiful scenery that made me stop more than I planned. But the weather was great for photography. The cloudy sky resulted in great reflextions on the river.
The landscape in Setesdal varies from flat countryside to wild and beautiful high mountains. The road up through the valley runs from the southernmost city, Kristiansand along the river and approx. 150 km. up to Hovden. The road goes through small and larger towns, but follows the river all the way. The mountains keep getting higher.
At Storstraumen the road crosses the river. This is also the narrowest points in the intire river course. From ancient times, Byglandsfjord was much lower than the Åraksfjord. In order to secure boat traffic between the two parts of the fjord, a lock was built at Storstraumen.
At Brokke I drove up the mountain side and took the the photos above. Here at the place called Brokke there are lots of privatly owned cabins. The area is great for wintersports and hikes during the summer.
