Lichen cups
This pretty shaped Lichen is called Cladonia. One is the cutest I can find around here. It always makes me think of all the little fairies that drink magic potions from them ;)
Such tiny little things!
It is actually one of the most picked typed of Lichens. It contains gummy or starchy material that helps fighting couch.
Again - safety first. Do not try this if you are not completely sure you know what you are doing! I never did it. I just read about it :p
The love all kinds of decomposing material. This one I found on the side of a very, very old tree stump. All together with other lichens and mosses.

They grow almost everywhere! Super small.. you must look :)
In Cyprus, I have never seen them ...
They grow in Portugal. The weather is very similar in Cyprus I think. You can try to look in winter or early spring on old tree trunks.
The weather, I think, is similar. But the trees are few. Basically, shrubs, they are also few.
Rains are also small and rare.
Therefore, in cities and villages - they are not.
High in the mountains - I do not know.
When I'm there, I'll definitely look.
Yes, they need some rain and moisture. I don't see them much in summer. But they do appear in winter and early spring when it is cooler and wet.
Rain - this is what we lack!
Several years ago, when reservoirs were not filled because of very short and rare rains, us only were given water three times a week !!!
It was a nightmare!
Considering our very hot climate!
Wow! I hope it rains enough this year. I was very dry here too last winter.

Beautiful carpet of green lichens and moss! I would love tho see those fairies! Where do they live? Have you got some photos or paintings of these little fairies?
I believe there are fairies,so they depend on these for food.
