The Grassmarket

This is the grassmarket, an area of town well known for being right under the castle and for having some great restaurants and pubs. In the past this place has hosted street parties, festivals, markets and a weekly public execution.. though they haven't done public executions in some time now. The last one was George Robertson, who brutally murdered his ex-wife and two teenage children. If it hadn't been for the extreme nature of his crime, I doubt the death sentence would have been imposed. In 1963 Great Britain abolished the death penalty.
