Visiting the Falls (Original PHotography)

in #photography6 years ago

Howdy!

Yesterday was a rough one, but Wednesdays are pretty good this semester. I woke up early and headed to the coffee shop, camera in the back seat. After a quick two-hour coffee break, spent working on my Spanish 101 class' homework assignments, it was time for a break.

And what better break is there than a visit to the waterfalls? Okay, i can think of a few better options, but these were easier to get to.

You don't always need a tripod. There was a well-placed boulder here, so a long-exposure was possible. It has definitely been a wet year. This time last year, the falls had less than half this much water splashing into the pool below.

After only about a half hour at Minneopa, I headed to Triple Falls. There are no signs and it's not well known. The access road is a skinny gravel road, with a steep incline and a steep drop off the non-existent shoulder. The new Jeep has all-time four wheel drive, which was much appreciated coming back up the hill!

Being a bit of a lighting nerd, I was sure to hit Triple falls at just the right time to get sunlight streaming between the trees and illuminating the mist. This next shot took several attempts, as I decided not to lug the tripod and had to hand-hold the long exposure. It was only 1/5 of a second, but the lens is not image stabilized.

Take a close look, and you can see the water droplets splashing off the rocks below, leaving arced lines in various directions.

Those of you who follow me have probably already seen this, but Tony and Chelsea Northrup, of YouTube fame, are giving away a Canon EOS R and a Fujifilm X-T3. If you want to enter, you can click the button below to do so:

Dang now I’m really impressed... no image stabilization and you take amazing shots!

Deep breath, exhale, wait for heartbeat and take the shot. It's still not easy, but it does help :-)

Amazing photos, beautiful places

But that wouldn't have the double meaning... Lol

Uhmm Ok I get it!!

It's a really pretty place. It looks like it would be peaceful. Are there a lot of people around the falls when you go picture taking? We have a few waterfalls here but they are always surrounded by people swimming or picnicking so it's hard to get pictures without people in them.

The big waterfall is at the start park and easy access, so that can be very crowded. Triple falls is usually empty. The road in is scary, and it's not on the maps. In the winter, I never see people there.
