Tuscany (Italian: Toscana) - historical land and administrative region in central Italy, located in the North Apennines (Tuscan Apennines) and on the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian seas. From the north it borders with Liguria and Emilia-Romagna, in the east with Marche and Umbria, and in the south with Lazio. The capital of the region is Florence. In the central part of Tuscany there is a historical land as well as a wine region called Chianti

History
Tuscany is also a historical land, initially known as Etruria and inhabited by the Etruscans, conquered by the Romans became part of the Roman Empire (281 BC). From 406 CE conquered by invading German tribes. From 553 under Byzantine rule, from 568 - Longobards, from 776 - Franks as the Tuscan Marchus.

From the age of X to XI, the lands of Lucca, Siena, Florence and others were distinguished. From the fifteenth century, subordinate to Florence and the ruling Medici in it. From 1569, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. After the end of the Medici dynasty in 1737, the power passed into the hands of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty, which bound the country to Austria. After his conquest in 1801, Napoleon Bonaparte created the Kingdom of Etruria. In the years 1807-1809, Tuscany was part of France. In 1809, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany Napoleon gave Eliza Bonaparte, and in 1814 the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty returned to the throne.

March 22, 1860 became part of the united Italy.

The Tuscan dialect became the basis for the Italian language.

Tourism
The region is one of the most important tourism centers in the world. Regional cuisine and wines are very popular, widely developed agritourism has a rich base. Monuments and world-famous museums attract visitors from around the world. The mild climate permits a fairly long tourist season, which lasts from Easter to October.

From the tourist point of view, in Tuscany, you can distinguish the coast and towns located in the region in a mountainous area. The middle part of Tuscany is popular around the Chianti region, famous for its vineyards and medieval towns. The Tuscan coast stretches from Marina di Carrara in the north to Ansedonia in the south. Tuscan beaches for the most part are sandy. The region of Tuscany also includes islands located in the Tuscan Archipelago - including the most famous Elba [1]. The region has a rich hotel base, there are numerous campsites and holiday apartments. In the hilly part of Tuscany, rural agritourism farms are popular. Often with private pools and vineyards.

Economy
The region has an industrial and agricultural character. Main crops are: cereals, potatoes, broad beans, artichokes, vines, olives, peaches, plums, fodder plants and others. Wine production is important (see Italian wines) and olive oil. It is bred: cattle, pigs, goats and sheep. Fisheries and forestry are also practiced.

The dominating is the small and medium industry (with very high craftsmanship) mainly textile, machine, metal and metallurgy. Extraction of pyrites, mercury ore, marble, zinc and lead.
