Travelog 10 | Taiwan Series: Quaint Antiquity of Shifen♥

All aboard!

One of the must-sees in Taiwan is the Shifen Old Street. I am sure when Taiwan is typed up, photos of the sky lantern will flood the feed and Shifen is the place for that experience.

But of course Shifen Old Street is not just about that; It is a village built around the train tracks and station which was originally built as an old mining transportation during the Japanese era. The village has a lot of lanes and alleys that didn't change through time. It is called Old Street for that sole reason.

The moment you step out of the Pingxi train line, the quaint ambiance of the village makes it seem like you are transported to the past.

If in my previous post of the Arashiyama in Kyoto, I say that its beauty is almost as if it is taken out Makoto Shinkai' works... then this Shifen Old Street has the Hayao Miyazaki vibe.♥

The village is in its truest form: old metal gates, roughened concrete walls, chipped paints and old signages but nature always has its way to put beauty back into perspective as we walked further down the tracks. We were greeted by the breathtaking landscape in contrast with the old train tracks. The view is absolutely stunning.

(It's almost as if I can see forest spirits or Totoro coming out to greet us! Yep, definitely Hayao Miyazaki-esque! ❤)

Sky lantern is what people come here for, to pen in their wishes for the future, for their loved ones, health, and career. It is such an optimistic affair held in the middle of the train tracks making the place emit this holistic and positive from everyone!

We did our lantern too, of course! But the wishes are a secret or else it won't come true, right? ;)

In true Facebook fashion, "Megan Kylie Is feeling in love, in love with the petite village that has a lot to offer".

Hopefully, people who are planning to visit won't just go there for the sky lantern! There are a lot of snack shops, a variety to enjoy! There is the Shifen Waterfall too (which we never got to see because of the summer heat...).

And this is me, forced to pose for the camera while waiting for the train to come. Haha!☺
