オレンジ (Surreal Sky at Dusk)

オレンジ by Mike Jackobo.

オレンジ (Orenji) is a Japanese word and it means “orange”. It is obviously a loan word from English and it refers to both the fruit and the colour. The reason I chose the japanese word and not the English is because of the song by the same title by the band Passcode. This is the second time I decided to use the title of a song for a photo; the first being Babymetal’s Megitsune.

I took the photo at the Mesolonghi Lagoon during my visit there with a friend in April. It was the end of the day (obviously) and we returned to Tourlida, which was the first place we visited upon our arrival in the town. The whole day there were very few clouds in the sky and the weather in general was perfect. As the day drew to a close though, clouds began gathering, creating the strange patterns seen in the photo.

The play of colours of the dusk intensified the surreal feeling created by the clouds; it made for a scene I couldn’t keep myself from capturing with the camera. For the composition I decided to put the mountains in the centre of the frame, leaving an equal space from the edges of the photo. I don’t know what is this triangular thing that is sticking out of the water. I put it in the photo in order to have something in the foreground. All of these were done while paying attention not to include the sun in the frame because everyone seems to do it.

Of course, I can't help myself but include the video for the song Orenji by Passcode
