Digital Photography - Auto ISO & Other Camera Modes

in #photography5 years ago

Today during my digital photography class, we were reviewing an article written by Rick Ohnsman from a free website. A Beginners Guide to Auto ISO and Other Camera Modes This article was very informative and gave a step by step guide to taking pictures when focusing on the three sides of the exposure triangle. While we were reading the examples, several of us in the class started adjusting our cameras to test the theory that the author was writing about since his examples were for a Canon camera.

I let my teacher know that I had recently taken a bunch of pictures at a relative's birthday party that were underexposed. I knew that they were underexposed, but I didn't have enough experience using my camera to change the settings manually "on the fly."

The room was dark because we were reading from an overhead projector. It was a perfect condition for an underexposed picture. I wanted to learn how to change from automatic exposure to something else so that my pictures would have enough of the ambient light in the room to come out clearly.

It was really interesting how the pictures changed as we played with the Aperture Priority Mode, the Program mode or the Shutter Priority Mode settings on our cameras.

Sometimes the pictures had a near perfect exposure even in the dark. Other times, we needed to make additional adjustments to keep the picture from coming out blurry.

The article is very informative and helped me to discover a few new things that I can do with my camera. I do need to practice at home where I can take my time and change the menu settings one at a time while I take a picture varying 2 or 3 components of the exposure triangle.

In the meantime, I will keep taking pictures as I continue to learn the many concepts associated with photography.
