📷 Trajan Forum

in #photography5 years ago

A beautiful view of Trajan’s Column and the whole Forum of Trajan is also revealed from the observation deck on Vittoriano. Initially, the column was crowned with an eagle, later a statue of the Roman emperor Trajan. In 1588, instead of it, Pope Sixt V installed a statue of the Apostle Peter, which remains on the column to nowadays.

Also, behind the column, we can see the dome of the Church of the Most Holy Name of Mary at the Trajan Forum (Chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano). And, of course, you can see the restoration of the forest on one of the buildings behind. Well, if the buildings are old and historic, they often have to be repaired. In Italy, I see it very often.
