Capturing Turkey Tail

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

I'm on a little getaway with my partner in the country. We took a snowshoe walk yesterday and one of the nice things we got to see was a blue ring-shaped fungus/mushroom called Turkey Tail, which I "captured" on camera ;)

It's also known as a "cloud mushroom". Apparently, this fungus has many potential health benefits used for centuries and millennia in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbal medicine. This include:

  • Boosting the immune system
  • Preventing and treating the common cold
  • Supporting chemotherapy patients
  • Combating breast and other cancers
  • Aid in digestion
  • Reduce chronic fatigue

It's apparently quite pricey too, with 1 lb selling for over $50 on Amazon.

Well, that's it for now. Have a good weekend! Peace.

Sort:

That's an insane amount for 1 lb. I wonder what regulations they have for selling it at a market like the farmers markets we have here, if there is any. Wonder how hard it would be to get some growing and make a side business of it.

Yeah I dunno. I think supplements are pretty free, that's why they want to bring in codex alimentarus to control everything more. Mushrooms are pretty easy, just need some wood, or specific kinds and the mushroom spores.

Not Muchroom for any more fungi in that photograph! Immense example!

LOL, no not muchroom for more mushroom in that pic... ;)

That is one big mushroom and so wavy.

A bunch of small ones ;)

Think that's expensive I paid $100 for a ounce of mushrooms... different type tho 😂

Yes well those are "illegal" and get you high... :P

Actually they're on the ballot to be legalized here in Colorado..

Are they best when deep fried though?

I think this one is used in teas, not for eating...

Yeah deep fried wouldn't exactly be healthy I guess.

That is on my short list for mushrooms to learn to identify in the wild, I learned about chicken of the woods a couple of years ago and it is pretty awesome, one of my favorite foods now. Nice picture!

Yeah we were just walking by and I saw it on a tree. Thanks.

Awesome! What a great display of the mycelium network 😀 love it, mushrooms are incredible

Yes, they are a remarkable kingdom of the 6 kingdoms of life.
