Sounded Like A Warzone in LA Last Night - 4th Photography
I have lived in LA for the past 5 years and have never been here for the 4th of July. Last weekend a friend was telling me her dog hates the 4th of July; I didn't fully comprehend what she meant until about 8pm last night. The whole city erupted in what sounded like WWII and the air was filled with black powder sulfur. There was so much smoke that the city looked like fog had rolled in off the pacific.
I did what any sensible photographer would do and went for a walk to photograph this independence day event. I live in Koreatown which is sort of the hood and the characters lighting off fireworks were more interesting than the bombs that went flailing into the air on every street. As usual I will let the images tell the story...
Above: Fireworks are illegal in Los Angeles, but that didn't stop people from blowing off fireworks on every street corner.
I loved seeing people coming out and enjoying the mayhem.
A dude with a watermelon shirt walks his dog who was going crazy over fireworks too.
Sulfur permeated the air.
Let me show you some of the people in my hood. Normally you wouldn't see crowds of people at night unless a murder went down...lol.
This kid can't seem to work a lighter. A girl yells for him to get out of the way...
She grabs the lighter and instructs some kids to back up. She's gonna light this damn thing.
Then everyone runs except for one kid who isn't scared.
Boom Boom Boom in the other direction
I walk a block over and begin talking to a neighbor who says he lets his wife light all the fireworks. She lights one and then hauls ass. He yells, "That's my baby!"
Yep. It was loud.
Some dogs seem to enjoy the commotion too.
An old man rides by on his bike
That dude with a watermelon shirt is everywhere tonight
Looks like bombs going off on Western Ave
Sitting on the street corner chatting it up
Boooooom!!!!
There's at least one couch or chair left out on every street corner in LA
And that concludes this piece. Enjoy !!!!!
