That seems to be the kind of guy he is. He was in a position to be able to go so he did.
Three years later things have sorted out. His son married his HS sweetheart and they now have a family of 7 :) Matthew actually caught two jobs when it was time. Head of maintenance at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff (where Pluto was discovered) and the one he took, Maintenance Supervisor for Tesla. His son transferred back to the Reno area so Matt is able to see his grandkids every other day or so.
Ah that's lovely to hear, a happy ending to all the sadness :)
