Hi, sorry for the late reply. i use 1/200 and 1/250 with external flash. I can assure you the insects are alive and free to fly :) @markkujantunen
With that short exposure times I'm sure that's the case.

the time to shoot these insect is also important. morning is best. plus the location to shoot too. if they are pollinating. they will be slower or pause but we still need to shoot fast or they fly again. :)
