Why You should be shooting RAW.

in #photography4 years ago

Hey!

What is the RAW file format?

The RAW file format is an unprocessed file seen by a digital camera's sensor. It's like a digital film negative what we have to process with some program made for this, like Adobe Lightroom, Skylum Luminar, Capture One, etc. Raw image files contain much more data then the processed JPEG images this is the reason why they are much bigger. Every camera shoot in RAW, the difference when you shoot in JPEG format is that the camera does it’s own processing to convert the RAW information into a JPEG.

Pro:

Highest level of quality
Easily correct over/under exposed images
You are able to set the white balance
Better detail by sharpening and noise reduction (these can be adjusted by the programs)

Cons.:

Bigger files
Slows the camera down, if you have a slower memory card
Have to process the image

Another advantage of Raw is that they are much much much harder to become corrupted... I have lost some photos due to JPEG corruption but RAW has built in error-correction... 🤠
