Lake Toya Nonokaze

in #photography6 years ago

A few months back I had the pleasure of visiting Hokkaido in Japan to explore some of its beauty in the colder months. Hokkaido is in the northern region of japan and has heavy snowfall throughout the year due to the cold winds blowing across the ocean. On this particular week there wasn’t much of a blizzard and it made for the perfect touring conditions to get out and explore some of the amazing sights that the area has to offer. This particular trip would see a visit to the famous volcanic lake of Toya Nonokaze. This lake is part of the Usu Global Geo Park and is huge, it spans for several kilometres and separates different towns.

Despite being in the most northern part of Japan, this lake has never frozen ever, ever! The waters are clear and the volcanic waters prevent the freezing. This part of japan has gained much fame through time and many significant events have been held here.
