Sushi Social in Reykjavik Part 2!

Next to arrive were the delicious Maki roles. Once again every bite had been designed to envelope intense flavours. For the Salmon Maki serving the jalapeno mayo was met with the smooth and cool taste of avocado and asparagus. The Wasabi Masago (Wasabi Roe) was a lovely touch and didn’t overpower the overall composition of the roles. Volcano roles were pleasant and added a different spice to the palate, the slices of tuna were meticulously placed on top finished with spicy mayo. Sushi presentation gets top marks, the chefs pay attention to detail and serve a work of art.

This new style sashimi was beautiful. The watercress garnish that enveloped a serving of torched sashimi was a treat for my eyes. The accompanying sauces were actually a combination that fused to give just the right kick after every bite. Many of the dishes here can be described as nothing short of elegance. My advice here would be to be a little adventurous and try some of the more obscure dishes you haven’t sampled elsewhere yet. There were quite a few interesting dishes that I wanted to try.

A pleasant end to an exquisite dinner, dessert arrived promptly after the mains. I opted for the chocolate fudge selection accompanied by forest berries and a milk sorbet. The garnishing Carambola (starfruit) was a cute touch. The fudge was not oily and chocolate was beautifully balanced.

I can often feel a little sickly when eating the sweeter desserts but the fudge selection with bitter berries provided just the right balance of sweetness heaven. The sorbet melted after every bite, a truly refreshing conclusion to a wonderful evening.

For anyone around Reykjavik’s city centre, I would highly recommend Sushi Social and look forward to a repeat visit when time permits.
