The Escribà bakery, and some gorgeous architecture of Barcelona.

in #photography6 years ago

This will be a sort of combination post today of some parts of Barcelona and a fairly well known Bakery in Barcelona. Though Spain is not on the world stage for any major industry, they do have one thing going for them, and that is their idyllic environment and warm temperatures all year round. Atleast that is the case for Barcelona. Having just visited Britain not too long ago, I was not at all surprised to find Barcelona and Spain in general, to be a few notches up in terms of climate.

So far, I've not experienced a single day of cloudy overcast whether. It is quite literally clear blue skies with a tad of cloud all day. Temperatures though not particularly high, are very consistent and the difference between night and day is actually very little. The range is about 24 to 18 degrees respectively.

With this kind of stable temperature, it's much easier to enjoy casual strolls outside during the day, and through into the night, you don't have to worry about bringing some thicker outer garments for the night time drop in temperature, because it's still pretty warm.

The first stop of the day is the National Palace which is the home of the National Art Museum of Catalonia. The central dome of the Palau Nacional is the dead giveaway of this landmark building.

This early 20th century building occupies quite a large surface area of over 30,000 square meters. From this angle, it's actually quite hard to tell.

This is the Cathedral of the Holy cross and Saint Eulalia. Sometimes overshadowed by the Sagrada Familia, it is often referred to as just "Barcelona Cathedral" and is a Gothic Cathedral serving as the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona, Spain.

I'm a fan of the uniform and symmetrical building style and I also really like the many gargoyles that are visible on the roof line.

The cathedral has an interesting back story relating to Eulalia of Barcelona. She was the co patron saint of Barcelona who was subject to martyrdom during the roman times. Apparently, she was exposed naked in the public square and miraculously, snowfall came and covered her body.

This angered the Roman public who then put her into a barrel with knives stuck into it and rolled her down the street. Today, her body is entombed in the cathedral's crypt.

Last, but not least, the Escriba bakery. Just a small pastry shop on the corner of La Rambla. It's known for it's pastries but to be honest, there is a lot of noise surrounding almost everything they offer, whether you're there for a cup of coffee, dessert, or a full on meal, you won't be disappointed.

I was extremely surprised to find the Paella and Mussels were incredibly delicious.

Of course, they pave the way for the real treat which is the desserts.

As you can see I took advantage of my accumulated appetite from touring the city and doing a lot of walking. I think there needn't be any justification for my slightly gluttonous behaviour.
