sunrise is
an event in which the uppermost side of the Sun appears above the horizon to the east. The rising sun is not the same as the dawn, where the sky begins to light, some time before the Sun appears, ending twilight (the event of the sun's light is seen from the end of dusk until dawn). Because atmospheric refraction causes the Sun to be visible while under the horizon, the Sun rises and the Sun sets is, from one point of view

sunset is
the time at which the sun disappears below the horizon line to the west. The red color in the sky at sunset and rising is caused by a combination of blue Rayleigh spreading and density of Earth's atmosphere.
