Spartium junceum 💐

During the course of my and @simba's trips over the last month and a half, we've been seeing the flowering of this plant everywhere.

This is a thick and tangled shrub, 1-2 m high, but can sometimes reach up to 4 m high.

Spartium junceum blooms all at once in a rich bloom in spring and early summer.

This is a protected plant.

It is common in the Mediterranean forest vegetation, in the north of Israel, taking over in places damaged by a bulldozer work or a fire, and planted in gardens and roadsides.

The seeds The leaves and stems contain toxic substances of the glycosides and alkaloids, the most important of which is lopinidine, which is also found in the lupine plants.

Eating seeds or parts of the plant can cause weakness, changes in the heart's pulse, decrease in blood pressure, shortness of breath, and even choking.
