Vanessa atalanta 🦋 The Red Admiral

in #photography5 years ago

While wandering around the Odem settlement on the Golan Heights, I came across this beautiful specimen that at first, I thought to be some kind of Danaus butterfly but instead I googled it and found the Red Admiral ⚓⁦👩‍✈️⁩

Apparently, it's a common species of butterfly which is best known for the red-orange shades in its wings.

You can see the Red Admiral in temperate climates in Europe, Asia, and North America and also in Israel 😎.

It is common in most parts of Israel (except for the extreme desert), most days of the year (except for the harsh winter days).

Its wingspan is about 60 mm.

Among the most beautiful butterflies in Israel.

In England, it was given the nickname Red Admiral because of the long distances it travels, sometimes over large bodies of water.

In the past, it was rare and is becoming more common. We can see it in the KKL forests, in the northern Negev and even in Tel Aviv.

Enjoy!
