Fort Edmonton 1846

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Canada is a big country. The flight from Toronto to Edmonton takes four hours.

Can you imagine how long would it take with this vehicle?

And they came. Brave men and women. Around 1846. Give or take. Tip a hat for those guys.

They just bring tools and first they built a wooden fortress.

This is a view from the outside of the fort.

This is the courtyard behind high walls.

With high watchtower to spot the intruders on time.

It looks like master bedroom to me. It's located in the main building. Maybe it belonged to the warden.

This is a typical room of some kind of craftsman on the ground level.

Look at this masterpiece of a chair.

These animals played a crucial role in the life of new settlers. I'm sure they take good care of them.

That's all for today. Thanks for stopping by.

Stay tuned for more.

"HERE BEFORE CHRIST". Those corporate adventurers from jolly old (HBC) had the fort started 50, 60 years before the wagon bunch stopped by on the way north to the Yukon via Athabaska Landing I believe.

I'm sure you're right. I tried to simplify for my worldwide audience. If someone wants to go more in the details could visit their website or Fort Edmonton Park in person. Thanks for a comment.

im thinking how long it take for mongols to come to russia and capture half of it in horses in a past lol, its like thousand of kilometres . I like this kind of forts and some oldschoolers roleplayers who live in this kind of environment and look like that time guys :)

Interesting times for sure. I like that too.

These pictures are far too good for a fellow Edmontonian not to resteem! So I resteemed this post!

Looks like interesting place , I'll put this on my list of travels . And just as it is not so far away.

Winter is coming. We had frost two mornings in a row. Hurry up, or postpone for next season. Thanks for stopping by.

That is one great set of photos. It always amazes me, how these people back then accomplished the things they did under the most difficult circumstances.

Traveling back then was a completely different story... just visited a friend 200 km from here.. went there and came home comfortably in one day. Thinking, 200 years ago, it must have been at least a 3 week journey!

every time we went to war we won ;) (including against the USA ;)
