Only the fittest will survive!steemCreated with Sketch.

About two weeks ago the 12 Guinea Fowl babies arrived in the back garden!

Oh yes, the cute little things were gradually whittled down in numbers and predators had a feast here at night. During the day it was the turn of the predatory birds and the flock grew intensely nervous. So nervous that at the slighted movement they would disappear. It made catching them on camera very difficult, but I persevered.
Here they are today!

Yes! As you can see, there are now only 4 little ones left!

Gradually over the days their number decreased due to predators!

We were so glad when these cute little ones made their first appearance!

And the predators? Who are they?

I introduce you to Mr. Crow, sitting nearby and defiantly declaring his territory!

And of course there's always Mr. Cat, waiting to come and feast!

There are also many bird predators around!

Not that I blame anyone, but nature certainly has a very effective food chain in action. At times it seems cruel to us and Marian was in tears a few times, but we simply have to understand that survival in nature depends on strong animals and birds that can procreate, in order not only for them not to become extinct, but also to keep them healthy.
There are no wheelchairs in nature for an animal that lost a leg and they simply become prey for predators.
We understand this, but it still hurts a little bit!

Lovely photos! It is sad, but also part of how nature works... many of these birds and other animals have such large numbers of babies not because they are going to take over the world, but because it takes 12 to get 2-3 to survive to adulthood, with all the predators and dangers lurking everywhere.

Thank you! So true my friend and there is simply no place for human emotions in this scenario. But that being said, we are human and many times we struggle to understand the effective processes of nature. The 1 or 2 that survive are normally the procreators of new generations. Blessings!

Amazing Photos :) Cheers!

Thank you my friend and your cheers returned!

Thanks for the photos. Chicks are so tender and funny at the same time.

Thank you and glad that you liked the chicks! Blessings!

Awwww, the babies are so cute, with stripes on their heads... almost like natural mohawks... So sad the food chain cycle has to turn... 😕 But the others gotta eat too, sighhh! That crow and kitty got that 'look' on their faces... and if I could see the others, bet they have that'look' too! Bah!

I think this is where the mohawk cut that today's teenagers wear come from my friend. I have also seen many greedy humans with the same "look", so sad. Blessings!

I like the mohawk origins then... :) Happy Sunday!

Great photos and it is the cycle of life but sad to see, I hope the remaining ones can stay safe

Can you believe that there are now none left JJ? Not even one, as I watch them feeding and the babies are always with them. Today they fed and there were no more babies!

Ohhh no that’s so sad

All the animals in the picture seem to be on alert, are they alert to the photographer or to natural law ? preyed or preyed on? Very cool shot sir :)

I think their nerves are tight due to all of the attacks at night. Many mornings when it is still dark, I run outside with the flashlight when I hear their alarm calls. But sadly the babies kept on disappearing my friend! Blessings!

I am watching your post with my son sitting on my legs, he really liked the fourth image and said: "Oh so pretty the little bird!" -he speaks Spanish but that is the equivalent of what he said :)

As always I enjoyed your post, thanks for sharing your wonderful shots.

Best regards.
