Wide vs Ultra Wide Lens for Videos + Should You Invest in Dtube Video/Audio Gear?

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Just made another $400.00 investment for my DTube production. I'm the type of person that likes to give back. And since DTube has been generous to me, I continue to invest in DTube and the platform in order to improve the content that I can provide for the platform. In my opinion, it's a win-win. I win because quality gets better and things diversify. DTube wins because more quality content enters the platform. So I delve into a bit of my philosophy behind that. But let's get into the gear first. (Pardon my voice, I'm still sick in this video - I'm at about 80% as of this post! Almost back!)

You might have noticed in one of my recent videos where I got kicked out of walmart, the lens is a wide angle lens. It is actually the 11-22mm f4.0 vs the 15mm I was using for all my previous videos. I'm really liking the 11mm, but the only thing I'm having trouble with at the moment is distortion. Maybe I'll make another video about that since this one is mainly a quick test. I do like the wider field of view and the fact that I can be closer to the camera. It's also much easier to hold my electronic gimbal now since I don't have to stretch out my arm as much.

With regards to whether you can film on your phone or not - absolutely you can. Don't get me wrong, if that's all you have and that's all that's available, go ahead and start video logging your day! I encourage it! I think it's good for the soul and good for reflection :)

I do feel however that it's a smart move to go ahead and invest in some serious gear. Most people who even think about starting a youtube video wouldn't think of doing it with their cellphones. Unless it's the crypto community which is a brand new community with new players. If you've been getting consistent payouts, I believe it's the smart thing to level up. It might not be the popular thing to say. Some of you might think "Oh well I don't have disposable income for another camera or audio gear." And I beg to differ if DTube is giving you consistent payouts. They are giving you the resources to go out and level-up the quality of your videos. Even though it might not be a popular sentiment, I will keep preaching it because I believe it will help you and it will help the DTube platform. I'm saying it not as a criticism, but I can see more advanced quality videos coming to this platform and I don't want any of you to get left behind. I say this out of love, not out of hate or anger.

That's my two cents. It may not be popular, but in order to survive a death-wave, sometimes you need to swim against the tide.

Great DTube video! You sure put great effort and investment on your dtube productions and that makes steemians like me happy because we see that there are people willing to invest in steemit platform and steem blockchain as well. For that I'll give my upvote :)

Hey thanks a lot man. Yeah it's important to give back and invest in the platform. Here's an upvote back at ya

If one has enthusiasm to do, he can do it through phone as well. Kepping it simple, if we can watch video from phone, we can certainly create it from the cellphone.
If one has the will to do, he will do it anyway

Definitely. Where there's a will there's a way. I'm not saying you CAN'T create content on a phone. I'm saying if you're getting DTube payouts or have disposable income and want creating content to be a source of income, then invest in it. It's just like any business. Even my 14 year old cousin was able to convince his mom to buy him a canon 70D for his birthday. Where there's a will to get some decent gear, there's a way as well.

There's big differences in sensor quality, depth of field, manual abilities and low light capabilities between DSLR vs SmartPhones

Actually there are plenty of people here doing it from their phones and it's working. It's just more pleasing to the eyes to look at footage from a real camera and to hear better audio from external audio equipment. It makes viewing it from your cellphone so much better.

For the last time, I'm not saying it can't be done. If a cell phone is all you have, then use the back camera, make sure you're in good lighting conditions and go do something creative and fun. I'm 100% for that.
