Bangkok then Phuket Thailand - The Next Stop on Our Trip of a Lifetime,

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Where were we? Mrs @SbsParts and I had gone with her brother and his wife first to Kuala Lumpur, then to Singapore (which incidentally used to be part of Malaysia according to one of my Uber drivers).

NEXT.... we went to Bangkok Thailand. My brother-in-law had to get back to work so we only had two nights and one day at each location with them. Here's my Thailand thumbnail. I visited Erawan Shrine before the bombing (like 10 years before) and DID take pictures at that time, but this one is actually a stock pic. Look at that shiny shiny gold 😁🦍❤️

So what did we do in Bangkok? Well... if you know @SbsParts then you know... FOOD & MARKETS

My Sister-in-Law LOVES Hello Kitty... go figure, an asian chic that likes Hello Kitty :P

Tuk-tuk drivers are all crooks. Got a pic, but didn't take a ride. If you have a guide (some may refer to them as long-haired dictionary) you might not get ripped off.

A little hand crafted wooden elephant action:

Chang is Thai for "elephant" Singha is a pretty good beer as is Tiger Beer, but my hands down favorite beer in Thailand is Beer Lao, which is actually from Laos :P

Street snacks? Bugs? If they think you're going to buy some they'll sometimes let you try a sample.

Dinner time! We were at this market and couldn't find a good place for a sit down dinner.... so we settled on this one. It'd be so awesome if I wasn't allergic to shrimp, crab, and squid. The fumes were strong, but I think I had benadryl.... and beer :D

First you buy a mess of fresh seafood

Here's a closer look:

Then you throw it on the coals:

Before we leave the subject of food... here's a few more Thai dishes we enjoyed... mostly on this trip, but some might be from another trip when we actually took a Thai Cookery class up in Chiang Mai:

That trip when we were in Chiang Mai my Mother-in-Law was with us (2013) and we went to Nong Nooch where they got to ride an elephant.

I'd ridden one on my first trip back in 2005

Here's yours truly hanging out in one of their many green houses:

My Brother-in-Law and his wife went home after a couple of days and Mrs @SbsParts and I made our way down to Phuket. My first time in that part of the country. We stayed within walking distance of the beach, shopping, and nightlife.

Beachside cafe for dinner:

We were there for several days. Ended up at the Hard Rock one night for dinner, but not sure if we have pics of that :P

One day I decided I wanted Indian food. It was pretty danged good:

It was a pretty elegant restaurant and the waitress was snooty, but who cares? I enjoyed the decor, the food, & the company.

After Thailand we had time and money... and basically could go anywhere they'd have us. Actually we almost didn't go to Phuket in favor of Bali (I've never been there). Anywhooo.... Korea, Japan? We ended up in Taiwan. That's the next stop.

Before I end this post on our most recent trip to Thailand I want to share THIS with you. It was my trip to Thailand that kind of got me started stacking precious metals. In Thailand people will wear a thick gold chain and it's like a store of wealth. Labor is cheap so most of the cost of the jewelry is Gold Weight!

The pieces they wear are pretty pure and soft... and yellow ;-)

I meant to stop into a Gold shop while I was there to buy a gold chain, but I never did.

When I got home I started looking online for Thai gold... and ended up buying 10 one troy ounce silver bars from Silver Towne. They sat on my desk and I polished them daily for 2 or 3 days until I decided I had to have more.

And the rest is history!

Wow! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. If you made it to the end congratz!

Please UpVote, ReSteem, and Comment 😊👍🏼

You brought back memories, I love Thailand.........I went to many gold shop, look for the red signs, they sell 23k gold. The weight is divided in a Thai Bhat, which is 15.5 grams. An ounce would be 2 Bhat is weight. The color is very unique. Thanks @sbsparts

@sbsparts absolutely Beautiful it reminds me of @sweetsssj and Her Travel posts............

Hope one day we can seat around and talk more about your adventures. 6-23 man

Awesome pics! The food looked delicious, minus the bugs 😛 Never seen so many gold chains in all my life! 😍

Those gold dealers are practically like their bank (for the unbanked Thais). If they need money they sell/trade in their chain for a cheaper one. I'd still like to pick up some of this gold... but I don't want to overpay and worry about getting ripped off. I'm gonna have to do more research before I make a purchase like that ;-)

Awww. There food look so nice.. It unbelievable what they do with their talent.. @sbsparts you are the best for being so informative!

Thanks very much my friend. I'm glad you enjoy the post(s).

you make me want to travel the world my good sir thank you

There are worse things to spend time and money on ;-)

I love gold... the 24K ones. Although the are softer, I love their natural finish and the color, so different from the 18Ks which is mostly what is used here in the US. And why on earth did you not get yourself a 24k necklace? Perhaps on your next trip! Thanks for sharing those photos. Brings back my own fun filled 15 day trip to Thailand. And I think we already had exchanged notes on Thailand back in youtube. Hmmmmm... does it seem like we have been friends for a while now?

Yes! In the west you pay huge premiums for labor, not so much there. It's very cheap. That's why those HotCo.co (SilverStatues.com) pieces are assembled in Thailand. So it's nice to pay mostly for the weight. I feel like a sucker paying these crazy premiums for bullioni :P

Yes Saver, friends for not too long ;-) But quality over quantity, hehe.

So, our next stop is Taiwan? Wow, I never thought that I would be there...
Did you try a sample of these bugs in the streets of Bangkok?

The street ones are terrible, mealy and flavoreless. I've eaten silk worms made with a little more care and they were better, but not great. I say eat what you like, but don't be afraid to try everything 😉👍🏼🦍

Wowww Thanx for sharing
