If there is one place i would rather be right now, then that place would be Balquhidder or Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba, that's the name in Gaelic, it translates as "the farm in the back-lying country",

Loch Voil

Balquhidder is a village and parish of Perthshire, Scotland, it lies 2 m. west of Balquhidder station (now closed) on the Caledonian railway line from Callander to Oban, and around 28 m. northwest. of Stirling. It is situated at the east end of Loch Voil, a lake at the foot of the Braes of Balquhidder.

Loch Voil

It is famous for being the burial place of Rob Roy MacGregor, the well known 18th century Scottish patriot, folk hero and outlaw, who was known as a Scottish Robin Hood, his remains are in the grounds of Balquhidder church, the remains of St Angus,( the columban missionary who was responsible for bringing Christianity to the area) are also said to be buried there.

More Loch Voil

The whole area is fairly desolate, it has a strange eerie feel to it, but then it is out in the wilderness, you see Red Squirrel, Pine Marten, Mink (not native), Osprey, Red Kite, Adder (poisonous) and other creatures, and with the abundance of rivers and loch's in the area, there's a lot of fishing, mostly Salmon and Trout.

Even More

Scotland is a stunning country and Loch Voil at Balquhidder is one of the most gorgeous places on earth, it can be accessed via a single track road from Balquhidder on the way to Inverlochlarig,
Loch Voil is an enchanting place and is in my opinion, one of the many reasons why they call scotland - Bonny Scotland
