Spiral galaxy with a Messier crosspiece 83
This new Hubble image shows a scattering of bright stars and a thick layer of dust that make up the spiral galaxy Messier 83, otherwise known as the Southern Spinner Galaxy. It is one of the largest and closest galaxies to us. In addition, the Messier 83 galaxy is very mysterious: it has a large number of supernovae and it seems to have a double core hiding deep in the center.
