Event: Jest Fest 2018 The Flying Wallendas

As promised I am continuing my ‘coverage’ of Jest Fest 2018 in this new post.

The Flying Wallendas are “One of the World’s Greatest Circus Families”. There are several family members who perform in other acts throughout the country. In true circus family style, this year's Jest Fest show was comprised of a husband and wife team as well as the husband's father, Tino, who leads the family.

The husband and wife team started off with juggling. He was juggling pins when she snuck up behind him and stole them.

Then he stole them back.

Then they juggled them together and performed some more.

Next up, all three of the Wallendas performed on the tightrope (with no safety net)!

I had never heard of this act before attending the event but apparently they have been around for quite some time. They are 7th generation performers who once toured with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, “The Greatest Show on Earth”.

As mentioned the family is currently led by Tino who started walking the tight rope at age 7. He took over when his grandfather Karl met an “untimely death”. Accidents while performing are nothing new to the Wallenda family. When you do things like this….

unfortunately a tragedy is bound to happen eventually.

[Side note: while doing some additional research about the family, I learned that they were mentioned in The Wolf of Wall Street...now I have another reason to watch that movie again!]
