Event: Spring Safari at the Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation

Henry the Rhino needs 70 arthritis pills in the morning just to get up...I thought my mornings were rough!

Recently at the Spring Safari event we met Henry and some of the other animals who live at the Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation facility.

During the event the trainers fed the tigers every half hour. We watched "Gator" the Tiger eat a yummy snack of raw chicken. He could smell it in his trainer's hand.

Many of the animals were hiding in the shade. With the temperature in the 80s in Florida, I can hardly blame them.

All of the animals are kept in large fenced in enclosures and seem to be fairly happy there. Scarlett the spotted hyena even got a nice rubbing from her trainer.

Bagy the turtle was just kind of hanging out.

Tommy and Scout were caught just being generally cute. I don't know why but I just 'love me some lemurs".

(Unsure if this is Tommy...or Scout?)

There were 3 food trucks and some small vendors selling treats. Fresh bacon was on hand as well. (Just kidding)...there were baby pigs you could feed for an extra $5.

Instead we spent $5 on a Cotton Candy/Cherry Sno Cone. It was getting hot walking around in the beautiful sun so we were ready to go. We missed the warthog races but thankfully no one got sprayed with animal urine.

This special fundraising event ran for 5 hours. The conservation foundation also offers private and semi-private tours focusing on the conservation and preservation of the 25 different species who live on this donated land. The foundation animals are totally dependent on donations and 100% of the donations go directly to animal care.

The facility is a little out of the way in the backwoods but I think it is definitely worth the trip!
