I HAVE FINALLY DONE IT!

in #photography6 years ago

Yes!

I have finally photographed my own reflection in a candid subject's sunglasses.

Achievement unlocked!

Not hers, unfortunately. (But a naked women in the park makes for a more compelling thumbnail than reality, don't you think?)

Take a step back. Here's my dudes.

And here's me!

SunglassRef2.jpg

It's taken six months and 14,000 photographs for this to happen.

Like all such arbitrary achievements, it's not really that significant. But as steemians, bloggers, authors, media-makers... isn't our ultimate goal to see ourselves reflected in the faces of others?

I took these photos at "Hempfest," which was held in Boston Common yesterday.

About which... more later. Suffice it to say that smoking tobacco in the park is now a misdemeanor punishable by a $250 ticket (I'm not kidding), but you can buy weed and light up entirely free of consequence.

So the air was full of skunky fumes and lamentable reggae music. But there were happy hippy chicks everywhere, so... mixed emotions.

And it turns out this one wasn't naked after all.

We've still got some standards, around Boston.

It's just Hempfest, after all. What did you think this was? Woodstock?

The summer of 68 was the heyday for hippies in Boston. The Commons was an open-air drug market and Charles St. was full of head shops.

Was it really? It looks like it might be coming around again.

I hope you can come visit someday and take me on a historical tour.

That would be wonderful. I'm trying to crank out a couple of books- my autobiography and selected essays from Steemit. Maybe I'll make enough for a vacation. (not in winter though)

Ha ha! Sounds like the beginning a conspiracy here! The accidental photographing of the photographer which gives away the staging of the photo!

Good for you! I still don't understand how you manage to take pictures of random people... I guess that would be an achievement for me!
By the way, what do you mean by smoking tobacco - like a cigarette? You get a fine for that?

Yes. The park rangers (who are part of the police force) will write you a ticket if they see you smoking tobacco in Boston Common or the Public Gardens. I've watched it happen.

The mayor supports the law, even though he's one of our customers. He's told us, "just walk away from the ranger and don't give him your ID."

You do realize you're making this guy look more and more creepy the closer you get with those photos, right? :P
Good for you, seems like you're having fun with this photo series!

This not-naked one also has what appears to be a wedding band. So much for dreaming. BTW, I was at Tokenfest probably at the same time.

Oh rats - I didn't know about Tokenfest. I could have totally walked there after work.

Ha ha ha, great achievement!
Oh, the weirdness that is demonizing tobacco while simultaneously relaxing the demonization of pot. I see it here in Denver, too. A $250 fine though, wow. Tobacco is now banned on the 16th Street Mall here, which is an outdoor pedestrian mall, and it was largely seen as an anti-homeless-people measure. Pot smoking is also a no-no in public though, at least except for the 4/20 rally, but we passed public pot cafe type places in a vote, though I don't know if any have opened yet or if they are all caught up in bureaucratic red tape.
