Champagne Pool

in #photography6 years ago

Here is the Champagne Pool at the Waiotapu thermal area (New Zealand). Over 62m deep, the Champagne Pool is 165 degrees Fahrenheit on the surface and was formed by ancient hydrothermal eruptions. The pool displays nearly every hue of color due to mineral dissolution (murcury, sulphur, gold, silver, arsenic, thallium, and antimony). Sintering (fusing from powder) of the minerals occurs at the edge of the pool.
