Nature's Barbed Wire

Here is a close up of one of natures simplest and most effective defenses. The spiky defense has worked well for millions of years to protect the simple water-filled plants in the desert. Many of these species of cacti can live for hundreds of years! In fact, these cacti grow for about 75 years before they even grow their first "arm!"
