A suicidal attack to protect his own!

The big predator somersaulted upside down, in flight, to bite at the small attacker!

Spring is nesting season and some of the smaller birds become very agitated whenever a predator bird comes into their territory. I have seen aerial battles between starlings and crows and also between a gang of hadeda's and crows, but it's the first time that I see a single small bird attacking a falcon.
Let's have a look at the fight!

I saw this unusual sight quite a distance away early this morning. The small bird continued to dive at the big bird!

Then the birds turned and started flying in my direction. Note the small guy going into another dive!

Now watch as they are coming even closer!

Boom! He almost touched the big bird as he pulled out of the dive. Look how the big bird turned over backwards to bite at the small bird!

And then it was over and each bird went their separate way. A moment of madness? Maybe but it just shows how brave desperate smaller birds are to protect their nests. They are prepared to sacrifice their lives' for their children. Any animal will die to protect their children, but sadly so many humans haven't learnt this lesson from nature. Unwanted babies are dumped at non profit homes that work in the caring fields for little ones and Papillon has supported some of these homes.

Our country also has a staggering count of missing fathers and single parent mothers. I am one of those that had no father and we try to help where we can. There are also untold numbers of orphans, child headed households and grannies having to raise a new generation on their own. This touches me deeply, but like I said previously, we can only do with what we have. A dream would be to own a farm with an agricultural college strictly for orphan learners so that they can be offered a chance in life.
But, we have to do what we can! Selah!

@papilloncharity I think taking pictures of flying birds is not easy but you always succeed in this..

You have good skills in this matter, friend and this is amazing.

Thank you for the kind words my friend! Blessings!

Wow these are wonderful photos @papilloncharity!
So sad about the number of children who are orphans even though they do have parents somewhere else!

So true Lady Joan, my father went on to sire another 5 sons with his new wife and no wonder that he didn't have any time for us. He used to assault all of us and it was better for me to grow up alone. I have forgiven him at his grave. Blessings!

Ah that is so sad, you are a beautiful soul to have come through all that and produce such wonderful works both with your photography and the charity work, that's just amazing!

So cool you got to see this and capture it and share with us

Thank you JJ seen it a few times before, especially smaller birds attacking the crows and I even have a shot somewhere of a crow flying with a stolen egg in his mouth. Blessings!

I have seen it a couple of times but never got photos like you did they are so cool and tell the story

Love the shots

Thank you and glad that you liked it! Blessings!

Humans only need to look at nature to learn about life, animals don't breed if conditions are not right. Education is required from a very young age, too many single parent families, children are a countries future and wealth.

Using the small bird protecting it's young, a wonderful way to photographically tell the story about parenting, well done!

Thank you Lady Joan, at times I really want to cry at some of the scenes that we visit. We also had to make our own way but thankfully until I was 13, we had my gran around. Blessings!

This is really rare view which you click in this photograph..
