Ice Marsh
Low Tide Smell!
Do you know the old tales about Sailors returning to home, and the smell of the shore? it goes along the lines of, Sailors returning home love the smell of the land. It draws them home. turns out, the smell fo the land is simply the smell of dead things, dying on the swampy, marshy shore lines of most beaches. Usually, it's the smell of Low Tide.
the Smell Of The Sea
A few years, back, Researchers also found the Smell of the Sea! That, turns out, is a gassy release, by ocean dwelling bacteria. So, returning to port? Dead things in the marsh. heading to sea? Ocean Bacteria Farts.
To my left, is the Provincetown Causeway, also known as a breakwater jetty, keeping the marsh free of ships and boats from grounding in the shallows. As well, it helps with erosion control and land management. Here's other recent shots from there
