Adieu To The Kingdom

A king named Harvey lived on a hilltop; the hilltop was shaped like a ball.
He had a son - named him Prince Phil; Prince Phil didn’t grow and stayed small.
Prince Phil’s growing stopped you see; he was two inches tall head to toe.
No matter how fast the prince tried to be, because of his size he was slow.

Prince Phil saw danger, attending parties, that were always held in great halls.
He could be stepped on and he’d be hurt, so he has to stay close to the walls.

Prince Phil was lonely for a princess to meet, so he’d lie in a matchbox and dream
Of a princess small as him he could greet, it would so help boost his esteem.

One day a witch saw him scurry around, and said she could make him be normal.
He’d just have to fix it so she’d be around, when everyone’s dress must be formal.

He convinced his father, the king to proclaim, the grandest ball of the season.
Everyone there will be proud of their fame; the witch will be there for a reason.

She took the most beautiful girl of all, and made her as small as Prince Phil.
She made the girl forget every thought, but to just seek the tiny Prince on the hill.
Prince Phil was mad that he was used, and the witch didn’t make him any taller,
As she’d promised but then backed out, and instead made the pretty girl smaller.

Now the witch lives in the castle too, and she lives with old Harvey the King.
She’s clouded all minds with witch’s goo, and the queen can’t recall anything.

Prince Phil is happy without a clue, and so is his lovely fair lady so small.
The witch has the kingdom; adieu to the kingdom, the kingdom is going to fall!

That's really cute! I like it. Maybe the kingdom is also about to be small!

That's a real possibility, I think. Thanks for reading!

A fairy tale in which everyone ends up happy despite treachery! Nice.

I'm glad it turned out as it did. This was uncharted territory, for sure!

@free-reign - loved it! And the illustration pictures were right on! Just goes to show you can't trust a witch.

Especially when they see you scurrying around, lol. Thanks for reading!

Ah, a nice little story, cool...

I'm wondering (and fearing) what's coming next, lol. Thanks again for the contest!

I loved this story and how you danced around it. It was so well told and I love the happily ever after, despite everything!

You rocked it!

Thank you so much! This nursery rhyme, like the bedtime story, was something I'd likely never have even thought about writing, if it wasn't for this contest. I'll always be grateful for the series of events that has me participating, and the excellent prompts @zord189 gives us.

Indeed! I really need to try to find the time to participate!

haha! That is brilliant free-reign, does that take a long time to rhyme the words? It would take me forever! Well done.

Hi Jonboy, the rhyming doesn't take long, but I've been doing it since I was a kid. I got interested in poetry in elementary school, when we studied Sgt. Joyce (he's a guy) Kilmer's poem Trees, in 2nd grade. I didn't only want to write poems after reading his poem, but it also made me have great respect for his military service, and piqued my interest in it.

Wow that's incredible sir free-reign, I can't even remember anything from the 2nd grade! lol. So this kind of stuff comes naturally to you and it shows!
