When you threw back the covers and lept from bed.
Ran full tilt into breakfast.
Shoveled in every morsel served up by guiding hands.
Then prim and proper off to school smiles coming naturally.

Now it feels twisted and torn, lips curling peeling off stained teeth.
Those smiles look more like snarls.
Exposing brittle skeletons.
Need more milk on that cereal.

Now it's ten cups of coffee and at least a dozen cigs.
Just to get the gumption up to look at the list.
Got that life laid out in front of you.
Seize the day, I'd rather flick the light switch.

I opened wide and shoved it in.
Got my paper cup and coffee within.
Nudged chair back and punched in pin.
Found another grin, just one more min.

Living each day in fearful monotony.
Building pointless paths for others to walk over.
There has to be something more than this.
I remember when it didn't matter.
Tick tock there goes alarm clock.
Turning key gently in cars lock.
Settle in deep to that car seat.
Screw it, I'm going back to sleep.

Cause tomorrow is another day.
And we can all go out to play.
Find a smile for that rubber face.
While hand behind back holds heavy mace.
Gimmie that lunch money.
