The Grieving Mother- Poetry from the Helm- The U.S.S. MinnowPROSE!
I wanted to fight, I wanted to cry.
But those boys were banded together.
Ties stronger than man and wife.
Nothing can bring my feet from the sand.
I'll remain here, till the ocean takes me.
Salt crusted on cheeks reddened by suns glare.
Waiting for my children to come home.
Hark, what is this I glance.
Reflections broken on the waves.
Fingers clenched and face askance.
Trapped in this moment neverending.
A slave to the rave.
Smashing itself against the bulwark.
This wall that separates,
Us from Them.
Row row row your boat.
As boys become men, bloated.
Nothing equalizes like the battlefield.
Mortars don't discriminate.
