Selkie

Is he alive?
but the crab shell
didn't move
as she walked off
into the reflected sunset
into the Atlantic
big trawler moving across
the dark then light shimmer
of the horizon

and she walked back
and apologized
for bringing only seaweed
and not the live crab she saw

and then she was off
walking along the line
between sand and sea
