It’s looking less sever for our area at the moment. We’re near Raleigh. Still w expect to see high winds, 7 to 10 inches of rain, possible flooding, and possible tornadoes in our area. We’re on a fairly high elevation where we live, but the size and strength of this storm are nothing anyone has seen in NC since hurricane Hazel in 1954. They’re closing schools everywhere from here to the coast. We’re most concerned about possible long-term power outages. If we lose power, my refrigerated meds will be lost, and I won’t be able to run my nebulizer. The temperatures aren’t supposed to be significantly cooler, so the heat will be a danger for me as well.

Quandry: Raleigh is the State’s approved evac route. Where do you evacuate when the evac route is compromised?

We’ve already filled several jugs and all our pitchers with drinking water. We’ll fill our tubs Thursday night, before the storm makes landfall early Friday. If the power goes out, the water from the tubs will need; you can still flush a toilet by pouring a bucket of water directly at the opening in the bottom of the toilet; you can also use the water in the tub for washing up, brushing teeth, etc. Of course, you need to clean the tubs with bleach before you fill them.

We’ve also stocked up on dry foods and foods that don’t need refrigerating. We’ve filled up with gas in both cars. We’ll be putting the patio furniture and all other loose items from the yard and porches into the garage.

Glad to know that you are in a less sever zone. Hurricane florence is all over the news.

Yes, we’re in a less sever zone. But, all around us it is terrible. The rivers are cresting today and tomorrow, meaning more flooding.

We lived through The Flood of ’93, in Missouri. We lived in the capital city, Jefferson City, Missouri then; the city was essentially an island for at least two weeks. I got sick back then and never fully recovered.

I admit, I’m a little freaked out about the flooding in all our neighboring towns here.

What's up with the situation now? Checking in on you.

I’ve been dealing with pneumonia this past week. I’m on a powerful antibiotic and a not-messing-around cough suppressant.

However, I’m also dealing with my mother’s imminent demise. I donned a surgical mask and we drove down to Fayetteville for a deathbed goodbye.

Be strong my friend. I know you can overcome them.
Sorry to hear about your mom.
I send lots of love to you.
