I Once Had Dreams

I had a dream but I woke up
To find myself in this nightmare.
Should I wake up from it as well?
Should I, by now, have been aware
That nothing lasts—That nothing's real?

Should I be gone with no farewell?
For what is lost, and what is fake,
Would it be trying to bring some joy
To my dead heart or some more pain,
Deserves no thoughts, no smiles, no tears.

I had my share of hopes and fears!

I once had dreams but I grew up
To see what was beyond the veil.
Would that I could undream, ungrow,
Or unsee to stop this strain—
To take back all my stolen years.
