Ghosts-of-Evergreen.jpg

Out walking at dusk
In my nearby woods and path;

Thinking about an article
Posted lately
In the village rag.

Seems some locals are worried
about coyotes;

Yet they've been here all winter
And no one's been injured.

But they've been noticed now
People are getting out,

Seems they're afraid of their pets
Being vulnerable to threats...

The same dogs they leave in the yard
Barking to all hours.

They don't care about laws
they have one for themselves;

I see my neighbour with a pump can
spraying chemicals on his weeds

I spent two hours today
Digging dandelions on my knees

So his pet won't get sick
When he comes by my lawn and pees.

I turn down my street
Disgusted by whet I've seen.

Back home, I latch the gate
Knowing all my animals are safe

The chipmunks, the cardinals
The mourning doves and sparrows

They find a refuge from the bleaters
Who'd outlaw bird feeders

Out to protect their homes
From coyotes who might roam.

We live near woods and a creek
what did they expect?

They poison weeds;
They'd poison coyotes too, I think.

Ah Love, promise to not be like them;
Never be cold and never, ever, grow old.

Triste realidad tu denuncia, @johnjgeddes.

Gracias, Nancy. También deseo el mundo sería más sensato :)

Coyotes have been known to hunt smaller pets that is true but have little interest in upright humans. No excuse for pesticide though ... poisons the Earth itself. Let the dandelions grow, says I:) They are delightful and world needs some coyotes, no doubt about that. Believe it or not we get a few in downtown Vancouver ... they come out of Stanley Park. They just walk right past us, almost as if they can't see us. Really, I think the raccoons are great deal more vicious and everyone loves them. It shouldn't be assumed that coyotes will cause a problem and pets should be brought in at night; that keeps most safe and maintains the peace.

Loved the poem, John:)

I agree with everything you said - Thanks, Pryde :)

There are many Poem here on steemit, some are real self made, and some are just copy from the Web. Your one is true self made. Very kind words chosen @johnjgeddes. In the night are the animals around, some are not free and some are free walking in the wild. _It is always a adventure for me in the night to walk. Thanks for the great Poem

Thanks, I appreciate your thoughtful response :)

Love the imagery. The coyotes are very foreboding especially in the cemetery.

Beautiful, such a wonderful walk and you have captured the moment so well.

It's strange the war humans have declared on all of our best friend's wild cousins. The wolf on one point became either our best friends or our worst enemy, no in between. A bit similar to the way we have been treating each other, really. Great poem.
