In Defense of My Art
In stories we tell ourselves;
The struggle is not with others,
But within us,
To do what we are called to do.
My soul has shadows—
Nooks and crannies
Where griefs, like cobwebs, collect;
I write these down
And give them to you—
A bouquet of bittersweet words.
Tolstoy said, happiness is an allegory,
Unhappiness a story—
Then what does that make us?
Am I the hunchback in a comic opera
Crippled on the inside
Unable to make gestures of love?
Is this why
I keep coming back
To certain books,
And you—
To find myself again?
Perhaps I’m flawed
And play a child’s piano
Of words
You’re broken,
But so am I
And the icy tinkle
Of my words
Echoes through your soul
So yes, it’s true,
I write small poems—
The kind that fit on a postcard…
But they still can break your heart.
Es tu ars poética, @johnjgeddes. Realmente quién puede decir lo que es arte o literatura? El canon puede tener una idea pero somos los lectores los que hacemos propio los libros, los poemas. Escribir, desde los escombros de uno mismo, es escribir con alma. Y es eso lo que hacen los escritores como tú. He leído poemas que no me dijeron nada, pero leí otros que los hice mi casa. Poemas a los que se puede volver mil veces y vas a encontrar una parte de ti allí guardada. Como cada noche encuentro en tus líneas. Te abrazo
