Shipwreck’d Desires
By Lannie David Brockstein
O, how mine hungry ears were starvèd deaf
By siren-winds that made whirlpools of rain;
Their chorus pitch’d as strings in treble clef,
Like spoilt Lilith who fam’d my Jewish mane.
She sail’d for far Western caves dispossess’d:
Where Love’s shipwreck’d desires are moonlit bless’d—
With starry centre inside Mother Earth,
Where warms the womb of her volcanic birth—
Her sky, my love, it shadow’d everything!
I lookèd deep upon her fainting tears:
Their glaze reflected backeth th’healing Spring
That blooms within my chest which beats as years
We sway’d below the swirling skies of gray,
And candlelit kisses in nights of May.
