Homecoming [poetry]
This poem originally appeared on Sumayyah Said So.
crown of gold
crown of thorns
crown of iron shackle & chain
despair prepare to be denied thy name
deep in the vessel in the waters
from whence your goddess came
say her name say her name
offer up your praise & pray
she’ll rise
troublin’ the waters
hidin’ your scent & sight
throwin’ cover over wickedness
guidin’ you to the light
honey-colored sunshine in the field where your back don’t break no mo’
shiny silver shields don’t reflect the fear contained in your eyes &
thunder is the sound of your soul
comin’ home
