Label Mates
this poem originally appeared on Sumayyah Said So as part of National Poetry Writing Month, or NaPoWriMo in 2012.
call it what it ain’t
give it a name the creator never spoke
claim you know the workings
inside and out
better than those
that live within the world
that you only dream of
spiral into lies
spread crooked film over your eyes
kaleidoscope of misinformation
pumping up your dignity
insinuate the true believers
are becoming a liability
false intuition can only take you so deep
before the dirty words you uttered
begin to haunt you in your sleep
keep your labels and
your name calling
your mis-identifications
your erroneous packaging
your fear and your hate
your warmongering and disease
your disrespect of the peace
and hesitation to accept
the people’s right to be free
don’t come around
mixing up reverse nothing for karma
legalizing the persecution
then denying them armor
needed to defend themselves against
your onslaught of terror
bashing and attacking
pretending they live lives in error
fallacy in evidence
in every aspect of speech
you spit ignorance and live in bliss
how long til they reach
hear their cries
feel the wrath of theirs in your face
that’s exploding
your ivory tower crumbles
you were never the chosen
keep your labels and your name calling
bullshit to yourself
don’t expect no sympathy
when you ain’t offered no help
cherish your lies and watch them fall
they can’t withstand all the truth
that you denied ignored
made believe didn’t exist
your mis-identifications
your super bad blacklist
your erroneous packaging
your fear and your hate
your warmongering and disease
your disrespect of the peace
and hesitation to accept
the people’s right to be free
