The burden

It started well before you knew,
and you had no choice but to adhere.
The choice was made by us for you,
we had no choice who would appear.

Decisions are made with thought,
but outcomes are never certain.
Hopes and dreams are often caught,
a stolen peek behind the curtain.

Luck plays a role and destiny may,
drive together through light and dark.
A world hostile and can sway,
even the sturdiest of the hearts.

Born into a world that can be cruel,
to those unwilling to accept the truth.
Burned to ash and pressure to jewel,
a life blessed with eternal youth.

How many have come before and will,
unknown faces and names of time lost.
No matter the pointless we will still,
continue onward no matter the cost.

Duty of care lays upon the shoulders,
whether chosen or not it must be said.
Influence of universe forever molders,
pullers of sheets and maker of bed.

No choice was made but here we stand,
together to face what will be will be.
Strength in numbers and hand in hand,
with the final destination yet to see.

Pains and disappointments come and go,
as do the successes of the moments absent
What was one can change we'll never know,
until what we once had is all but spent.

Life will always long for sets of feet,
to run into the future and begin afresh.
Good or bad those within can treat,
contained are all, intertwined and meshed.

Alone we come in and alone we depart,
an illusion that evokes fear in all.
Together we stand from end to start,
whether we stand bowed or tall.

Life for each is the greatest test,
to build upon what the future foretold.
For those to come we must be our best,
and do more than simply hold.

Although not to blame we gave no choice,
and forever more you would have stake.
From that moment you were given a voice,
how you use it is your choice to make.

We are equal you and me the start same,
a beginning where none choose their flask.
There are many who make wild the claim,
yet we have the same end and final task.
